Cross Timbers Hike
Cross Timbers is a five mile hike to a scenic campground. The nickname for it is "Midnight Hike" because that is usually when they arrive. Here are 7 of the Deacons ready to go. Headlight flashlights are necessary since all hiking was done in the dark. There were about 20 scouts on this trip and one of the older boys tripped on one to the many roots on the trail. He returned home that night to get staples in his knee at the ER and his knee was still swollen on Sunday.
They passed their five mile stopping point and ending up turning around. They arrived at their destination at around 11:30. Time to set up tents, start a fire, and eat a little. One of their scout leaders cooked up some stew.
At 6:30, Brother Walton woke everyone up saying "Time to hit the trails." Jacob attempted to cook some pancakes but Allan and Jacob ended up eating granola bars for breakfast.
If you look closely at this picture, you will see Allan holding tweezers. Why? He picked up a cactus. Why? He thought it was a prickly pear cactus. Sometimes kids do things and don't realize the consequences. He told me it took about five minutes to take out all of the little needles. I know he'll never do that one again.
Almost home again. This is one view of the rugged hiking trails. It was never flat, always up and down with a couple really steep parts.
