Spelling Bee

Nathan represented his class in the Spelling Bee this year. He was calm and confident, although he studied for only about 15 minutes. I watched as he stood and spoke into the microphone every time. Each round, a few kids were eliminated from the contest and Nathan remained. He was just about to be finalist when everyone prior to him had misspelled their word when the word was "Whimper." He said, "Whimper - W I M P E R - Whimper. He forgot the h. Oops! He did great and his class cheered him on. Many of his 4th grade friends said, "I wanted you to win." I was a proud mom.

Pinewood Derby 2010

This year we were super busy and forgot about the race until the week of the race. We called Reggie Santos, a family friend, who helped us cut it. Nathan sanded it and decided not to paint it but just apply a spray paint glaze. We added two weights to the side and a few stickers. Lucky #13. At the weigh in, we added one little weight in the front. He won the "Naked Wood Rhino" award. He won a couple races and cheered on the winner.
