Destination ImagiNation
Nathan and Joshua both joined DestiNation Imagination teams this year. It was five months of preparation for the tournament. The students used creativity, teamwork, and problem solving. There are two types of challenges. The Instant Challenge requires teams to engage in quick critical thinking and to put a presentation together quickly. The kids learn to listen carefully, work quickly, and think out of the box. Team Challenges build long-term problem solving, teamwork skills, leadership skills, performing skills, and presentation skills. The Tournament consisted of 321 DI Teams, 6 of the teams were from Cheatham Elementary.
Joshua's team was challenged with solving “Big Bug’s Bad Day”. Each team had to identify a character for each team member, write a script to identify “Big Bug’s” problem and have the cast help solve the issue, build their costumes and props and perform their play within an 8-minute timeframe.
I was Nathan's team leader. The team chose Challenge A - Unidentified Moving Object. The main points were
* Design and build Equipment that will move unique Materials to and from towering heights (6 ft.)
* Start and end the Presentation with all the Equipment contained in the team’s Storage Box
* Create and present a Sale Promotion highlighting the features of the Equipment
In the Tournament, we placed 4th. The hard work paid off!
